  • The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands

Opening to grand acclaim on the innovative Fari Island Archipelago, this is arguably Ritz-Carlton’s most future-forward hotel. A brainchild of the architect behind some of our favourite Asian resorts, the Maldivian drum was the inspiration for the spherical villas crowned with hidden solar panels. Smartly making the most of the sunrise or sunset views, they effortlessly balance modern, minimalist luxury and fuss-free island life. We’re talking al fresco dinners together on slick sundecks by private infinity pools and enormous floor-to-ceiling windows and angled wooden slats that bring the outside in. They’re completed by a level of customisation that outshines its kindred properties; primarily due to the miracle-working butlers known as ‘Aris Meeha’ – a Dhivehi reference to the first confidence of the royal family – who indulge guests as if they were nobility. If you feel inspired to visit, or if you have more questions about picking the perfect resort, you can contact me and i'll help curate your perfect trip https://www.allthingsmaldives.com/book-with-me Jane PS - I might just see you there, if so, say hi!

  • Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort

Directly translating to “Secret Water Island”, Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort is a luxurious all-villa resort. I love that at the Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort, each of the 120 villas features a gorgeous private pool. It’s located in the Shaviyani Atoll in North Maldives just a 55-minute seaplane ride from Male and the island has a gorgeous nine kilometer-long house reef directly accessible from the beach. Spread over a 16 hectares of a 600-hectare lagoon the Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort is a secluded paradise, boasting a perfect fusion of white sandy beaches, lush forests and untouched ocean. It's home to the world's first coral regeneration project, the longest infinity pool in Maldives, and prides itself on attentive yet unpretentious service. Upon arrival I was introduced to my butler, who whisked me into an electric buggy, and off down sandy, shaded paths to reach my villa. There are several options to choose from at Fairmont Maldives, from sun-kissed beach cabins to tranquil tented jungle homes and idyllic over-water bungalows. Join me on this journey as I share what I loved about my stay at airmont Malidves Sirru Fen Fushi , or jump straight to my instagram story here . Accommodation at Sirru Fen Fushi My one-bedroom sunset beach villa was a few steps away from the clear, warm ocean and the ivory sand, which was home to curious hermit crabs. Inside, the super-king bed was adorned with a beautiful, intricate decorative net that hung from the traditional Maldivian thatched roof. The villa featured matching dressing rooms-cum-bathrooms with a separate walk-in shower and toilet. At the back of the villa, there was a secret garden, complete with a large bathtub and shower, providing a luxurious and completely private al-fresco bathing experience under the shade of palm trees. The interiors of all the villas on the island were inspired by traditional Maldivian design, featuring local crafts, textiles, and artwork, which captured the unique local spirit of the area. Outside, a plunge pool overlooked the Indian Ocean through a gap in the mangroves. As soon as I arrived, I slipped into my flip-flops, immersing myself in the relaxed island lifestyle, and didn't put them on again until it was time to leave. Dining at Sirru Fen Fushi The charming Sirru Fen Fushi island boasts four unique restaurants, each with its own identity and menu. Our mornings started with breakfast at Raha Market, the resort's dining hub, where we indulged in a variety of traditional Maldivian dishes and international cuisine. We also enjoyed the beautiful open-air bar, Onu Onu, with its thatched roof created by Balinese artisans, savoring a pina colada while watching the stunning sunset. Azure offered another spectacular sea-front dining experience, featuring a delectable seafood menu, with an array of octopus, lobster, and king prawns. For a truly special meal, we dined at Kata, the signature Japanese restaurant of Fairmont, built over the water and celebrating the ocean's glorious seafood. Here, we savored sushi and sashimi accompanied by champagne, while watching the reef sharks feeding in the water below. The range of dining options at Sirru Fen Fushi offered us an unparalleled culinary experience, making our stay all the more unforgettable. Staying at Sirru Fen Fushi Every moment is infused with a sense of being in the very best hands. Whether you're joining Lamy for sunrise yoga, exploring the Coralarium with Sam, or indulging in a rejuvenating massage with Rung at the Willow Stream Spa, each experience is simply exceptional. A particualr highlight was the world-renowned infinity pool. This iconic pool stretches across the entire island, offering the perfect photo-op for an Instagram-worthy shot. The pool's design is simply stunning, as massive palm trees grow out of the water, further adding to the sense of tropical paradise that surrounds you. Snorkelling at Sirru Fen Fushi The resort's water-based offerings are equally impressive, whether you're looking to meet manta rays, black-tip sharks, and hawksbill turtles while snorkeling, or taking a dolphin-spotting cruise. Final word at Sirru Fen Fushi Private Lagoon Resort "What sets it apart from other resorts is the exceptional warmth and passion of its staff and its unwavering commitment to tackling pollution and protecting the region for future generations. It's a true gem of a hotel, located in a paradise location". TIP - Do check out the colosseum where a coral garden was created as an initiative to sustain the endangered coral in this region. • Beond Airlines Review

Where luxury meets the clouds I've just returned from a thrilling inaugural flight with Beond Airlines from Zurich to the Maldives, and I'm buzzing with excitement to share every detail of this luxury experience. Imagine soaring through the clouds in what feels like a private jet – that was my journey with Beond! Boarding Beond: A First Impression: Stepping onto Beond's Airbus A319, I was instantly struck by the chic and spacious cabin. With just 44 seats that transform into dreamy 180-degree flat beds, comfort was at its peak. The excitement was akin to boarding a private jet – pure, unadulterated luxury! Settling In: Once I settled into my seat, the friendly cabin crew offered me a glass of delicious champagne, the perfect start to a luxurious journey. The menus presented to us were beautifully designed, echoing the elegance of a Michelin-starred restaurant. This attention to detail set the tone for what was to come. Luxury in the Clouds: The in-flight experience with Beond is unparalleled. The plush seats, designed by Optimares (the same people who designed the seats for the Four Seasons private jet), offered unmatched comfort. The gourmet meals, served on exquisite William Edwards fine China and elegant Robert Welch silverware, were a culinary delight. In-Flight Entertainment and Comfort: Each passenger had access to an iPad loaded with a wide array of entertainment options, paired with wireless Beats headphones – a touch that merged luxury with the latest technology. The cosy plush blankets and pillows ensured I drifted off into a peaceful sleep, waking up refreshed and ready to explore the paradise that awaited in the Maldives. Widening Horizons: Currently connecting the Maldives to Munich, Riyadh, and Zurich, Beond is soon adding Milan and Dubai to its list of destinations. As a UK-based traveller, I'm eager to see them add the United Kingdom to this list. My journey from Zurich, seamlessly connecting with British Airways from London City, was hassle-free and convenient. Affordable Luxury: Beond Airlines stands out with its impressive combination of affordable luxury, offering fares around €1,500 one way. Their approach of using single-aisle, cost-effective aircraft without sacrificing comfort is a testament to their ingenuity in air travel. This innovative strategy, spearheaded by Tero Taskila, Max Nilov, and Sascha Feuerherd, demonstrates how luxury and affordability can coexist, reshaping our expectations of air travel. Final Thoughts: Beond Airlines My experience with Beond Airlines was more than a flight; it was a journey wrapped in comfort, elegance, and impeccable service. They're not just an airline; they are a luxury travel experience set to redefine what we expect from the skies. • Maldives - Manta Retreat

Psst. Don't tell anyone but... The second Manta retreat to take place this March from the 9th to the 13th 2023 at the InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort. Guests of the luxury resort get to experience the magic of meeting these gentle underwater giants up close while learning and exploring the research and education around them. In collaboration with the resort-based Manta Trust organisation, a thoughtfully curated programme was made available to guests to educate, explore and raise awareness for manta rays in their natural habitat. This year's Manta Retreat falls into the Maamunagau Manta Season, where young manta rays are found in the resort's lagoon just a few minutes away from shore. The Maamunagau Lagoon is a known juvenile manta ray aggregation point and a significant research ground for the Manta Trust team. "We can assume our lagoon to be a manta ray nursery. We still don't know where manta rays are born, but many juvenile manta rays hang around in our lagoon from December to April. This is a research haven for us, while we, of course, love to head out to Hanifaru Bay during the season as well to observe and research the massive aggregation of mantas there." explains Farah.
