Six Senses Laamu

An atoll utopia where sumptuous meets sustainable

Six Senses Laamu

I am a lucky girl when it comes to traveling. Sometimes, to be honest, I forget just how special the experiences I get to have truly are. But every now and then, a resort comes along that reminds me just how magical these adventures can be. My recent journey to the Six Senses Laamu Resort in the Maldives was one such experience.

Nestled 150 miles south of Malé, This hidden paradise, renowned for its unspoiled landscapes and barefoot luxury. Arriving at a genuine Maldivian barefoot island is an experience in itself. The moment you step onto the boat that takes you to Six Senses Laamu, you're handed a shoe bag – a subtle invitation to shed not just your footwear but also the weight of the outside world. As I happily stowed away my shoes, I felt a sense of liberation, both for my feet and my soul. There's something incredibly grounding about feeling the sand beneath your toes and connecting with the earth in such a direct way.

Join me on this journey as I share what I loved about my stay at Six Senses Laamu, a unique deserted island castaway that prides itself on its sustainable luxury, or jump straight to my Instagram story.

Accommodation at Six Senses Laamu

At Six Senses Laamu each villa is a masterpiece of local craftsmanship, showcasing the beauty and sustainability of materials like local timbers and palm thatch, skillfully produced by Laamu women. These villas blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, offering guests a unique and authentic island experience.

The villas feature expansive split-level decks and enchanting roof terraces, perfect for nighttime stargazing. Inside, the villas offer a spacious and organic ambiance with their woody interiors. Chunky wooden furniture complements the zesty oversized sofas in vibrant lemon and lime shades, creating a refreshing and lively atmosphere.

Each villa boasts large netted beds, ensuring a restful sleep with the soothing sounds of the ocean as a backdrop. The outdoor shower rooms with glass bathtubs add a touch of luxury and connection with nature, allowing for a truly immersive island experience.

While the beach houses offer more privacy, nestled amidst lush greenery, the overwater villas provide an unparalleled opportunity to connect with the abundant marine life. Imagine waking up to the sight of stingrays, green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles right beneath you. Staying in an overwater villa, even for just a few nights, is an experience not to be missed.

In the quest for eco-friendly resorts in the Maldives, Six Senses Laamu stands out as a leader in sustainability and responsible tourism. Amidst a landscape where greenwashing is unfortunately common, Six Senses Laamu shines as an authentic example of environmental stewardship.

At the core of Six Senses' commitment to the environment is SHELL, their Sea Hub for Environmental Learning in Laamu. This innovative center collaborates with organizations like Manta Trust, Blue Marine Foundation, and the Olive Ridley Project, offering guests an immersive experience in marine conservation. Visitors are encouraged to engage with experts and learn about ocean preservation, with special interactive programs tailored for children. This approach ensures that the resort's conservation efforts extend beyond its boundaries, fostering a broader awareness and appreciation for marine life among its guests.

The resort's Sustainability Tour is a testament to its zero-waste and self-sufficiency goals. Here, visitors can witness firsthand the resort's commitment to reducing its environmental footprint. From drinking water purified on-site to initiatives aimed at eliminating single-use plastics, Six Senses Laamu is dedicated to creating a plastic-free Atoll. The resort's efforts include supporting local communities by donating water purification systems, thus extending its eco-conscious practices beyond its own operations.

For guests, this sustainable approach translates into a unique and conscientious luxury experience. Complimentary purified water is served in stylish glass bottles, Nespresso pods are recyclable, and dining options prioritize local and sustainable choices, like local lobsters over imported prawns. This commitment to sustainability enhances the guest experience, offering both luxury and peace of mind.
