The Maldives is a vacation destination that is suitable for everyone, regardless of age or relationship status. Couples looking for a romantic getaway, newlyweds on their honeymoon, groups of friends, and even families can all enjoy the picturesque scenery, luxurious resorts, and endless activities that the Maldives has to offer. The list of who should not go to the Maldives is much shorter.


Weather
 

The Maldives is a tropical paradise that can be visited at any time of the year, with temperatures averaging 27-30 C making it a perfect holiday destination year-round. However, the peak dry season, which runs from December to April, is the most popular time to visit. During this period, the Northeast monsoon brings constant sunshine and blue skies, making it ideal for activities such as tanning and sipping cocktails.

 

The wet season, which is from June to October, is also a great time to visit. While there may be occasional rain or thunderstorms, the days are still sunny and the storms are usually short-lived. The wet season also offers the best time for water-sports enthusiasts, such as surfing, kite surfing, and windsurfing, as well as reduced rates and special packages.

 

For dive enthusiasts, the best conditions are typically from December to April when the skies are clear, the waters are calm, and visibility is excellent
 

Language
 

The Maldives has Dhivehi as its official language. However, English widely spoken and understood in the Maldives. Many locals, especially those in the hospitality and tourism industry, have a good command of the language. This is particularly true in the luxury resorts and hotels, which cater to international visitors, where English is the main language of communication.

Time Zone
 

The Maldives operates on GMT+5 hours, but many resorts choose to operate on "Island time," which can be one or two hours ahead of Malé depending on the resort. This allows for more daylight hours for guests to enjoy the beautiful Maldivian sunshine.

Currency
 

The Maldives officially uses the Rufiyaa currency, but US Dollars are widely accepted throughout the country, including at the airport and resorts. At resorts, all charges will be billed to your room, and you can pay for any additional expenses with a credit card at the end of your stay. It's recommended to have some US dollar notes on hand if you plan on leaving tips.

Maldives uses 240 volt electricity supply and power plugs are the same as you’d find in the United Kingdom.
